I find it ironic that cyclists in one of the most bike-friendly cities in America are reaching out to motorists to get them to be even friendlier.

I really loved this article!
In the last few weeks there have been quite a few articles in the Oregonian about bike commuting and how residents of the suburbs struggle to find safe bike routes to connect them to work and to the city. (But, according to census data, more and more are doing it.) It seems that while Portland proper is an alt-transportation haven, the 'burbs are not so friendly in both infrastructure and motorist attitudes.
I've noticed it is similar in Orlando - especially with motorist attitudes in town vs the suburbs. The longer the commute, the grumpier they are.
I've also noticed a "grass is always greener" attitude among cyclists. Just about everywhere I go, except for the really nice cycling locales, the locals insist that the drivers there are the worst towards cyclists, while to me it seems just fine.
I think it's just because the more time you spend cycling in a place, the more bad experiences you accumulate.
That's not to say all places are equal. When I moved from Ohio to Florida in 1979 the difference was stunning; Florida motorists were much WORSE. Within weeks I'd had more bad experiences than in years of riding in Ohio.
